Original Set Aside:

DOUGLAS CANYON MASTICATION - The contractor is responsible for furnishing all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies and materials to masticate pinyon pine and juniper from 381 acres. The service requested is mastication or grinding of whole tree biomass. All live and standing skeletons of dead pinyon pine and juniper (regardless of size) must be removed through mastication, while leaving and minimizing damage to other species such as cliffrose. The purpose of the project is to improve overall health of sagebrush ecological sites (mixture of pinyon pine, juniper, sagebrush, bitterbrush and perennial grasses), reduce fuel loading, improve wildlife habitat and other watershed values (e.g., increase plant diversity). Leave areas and boundaries may be altered prior to implementation of the project to mitigate sensitive resource concerns. Treatment area boundaries will be outlined on a map provided by the Government. The Contractor will be responsible for ensuring that they are within treatment boundaries by utilizing a Global Positioning System (GPS) or other applicable navigation system. The contractor may flag the boundaries of the unit at their discretion; however, the contractor will be responsible for removing all flagging when project is complete. Leave areas and boundaries may be altered prior to implementation of the project to mitigate sensitive resource concerns.
